I was struck by a request from a customer searching for more positive books relating to cancer and treatment. There are an unbelievable amount of books about cancer and getting through treatment, but there are few that address the topic with humor or an overwhelmingly positive attitude. I've pulled out some books with positive perspectives for those currently in treatment, survivors, and their loved ones. The book that immediately came to mind was What's Next After Cancer Treatment Ends?
The period after cancer treatment ends can leave even the most resilient survivors and their loved ones anxious, to say the least. What's Next After Cancer Treatment Ends? is a guide written by a cancer survivor and professional life coach, Paula Holland De Long, to help anyone who has been affected by cancer take back control of their lives. This inspirational book sheds light on the positive that can surface in the aftermath of treatment and is complemented by self-guided activities. I especially loved the very genuine anecdotes shared by survivors of all ages. The art is b
reathtaking and warms my heart.
Fran Di Giacomo finds humor in the most unlikely places with her witty and lighthearted book, I'd Rather Do Chemo Than Clean Out the Garage. The warning on the back cover says it all, "Do not read this in the immediate postoperative period due to risk of popping a suture or staple closure." I'd Rather Do Chemo is a lovely and thoughtful reflection on the chemo experience, with just the right touch of
Bright Side Up: 100 Ways To Be Happier Now reads as if you were talking to a close friend. Read it all the way through or keep it in your briefcase when you need a pick-me-up. Amy Spencer offers tips and tricks to help us focus on the present and be content with it.
A Different Perspective
I was recently introduced to the magnificent work of Kris Carr. Her film, Crazy Sexy Cancer is not only thought-provoking, but enlightening. Her outlook is so positive and has a lively optimism that makes the message she's trying to promote fun to listen to. Check it out at crazysexylife.com for a positive and supportive community for survivors and loved ones
One of the women in Crazy Sexy Cancer came up with an idea that will remind us every time we look in the mirror. Jackie Farry decided to put her sentiments about cancer on a hat. There's no ambiguity in the message on her famous hats, be forewarned: they do feature mature language! Farry donates a portion of the profits to various foundations and projects to improve the lives of people impacted by cancer. Snag one of the vulgar hats for a funny friend or loved one today at JackieFarry.com
